At the beginning of September, a working visit was held with Chinese scientists from Tongji University, Shanghai, and Bulgarian researchers from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and the Center of Competence “Clean&Circle” at the largest technological complex for waste processing – the Municipal Enterprise “Sofia Waste Treatment Plant.” The discussions focused on opportunities for innovative key solutions in technologies for biogas production from food waste and composting technology for plant waste.

At the beginning of September 2025, a research team from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski,” Faculty of Biology, together with the Clean&Circle Center of Competence, hosted a working visit by researchers from Tongji University, Shanghai. The two universities are partners in project No. КП-06-ИП China/4 of 16.12.2024, funded by the Research Fund of the Ministry of Education and Science. The topic of the joint project is “Innovative solutions for obtaining energy and products in the utilization of biodegradable waste” and aims at the creation, application, and verification of new technologies and methods to increase efficiency in the production of biogas and other valuable products from the processing of agricultural waste, household waste, and excess activated sludge from wastewater treatment.

A working meeting was held at the building of the Center of Competence "Clean Technologies for Sustainable Environment – Water, Waste, Energy for a Circular Economy" (Clean&Circle). The meeting brought together project partners, representatives from the Lead Partner’s administration – Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", and key experts from the Intermediate Body of the Research, Innovation and Digitalization Program for Smart Transformation (RIDPST).
