With deep sorrow, we inform you that on March 28, 2026, our esteemed colleague and partner, Prof. Dr. Valentin Nenov from the Burgas State University “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov,” passed away. Prof. Valentin Nenov was one of the founders of the CC “Clean & Circle.”

Prof. Valentin Nenov was a former Vice-Rector for Research at Burgas State University “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov.” His scientific interests were in the field of physicochemical and biological methods for water purification, recovery of biogenic elements, and the use of bio-electrochemical systems for energy production from organic waste.

Born on September 24, 1951, in Pomorie, he completed his secondary education in his hometown, and in 1974 obtained a Master's degree in Inorganic Chemical Technologies from Sofia University. In 1985, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the removal of mercury from water.

During his career, he worked at the University “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov” – Burgas, where he held key leadership positions, including Vice-Rector for Research and Head of the Department and Laboratory of Water. Prof. Nenov specialized in international research centers in Finland and Japan, and his scientific output includes over 240 publications, books, teaching materials, and patents in the field of water technologies.

We have lost a great scientist, a dedicated teacher, a respected colleague, and a dear friend.
