The long-standing partnership between Clean&Circle and the Sofia Municipal Enterprise for Waste Treatment (SMEWT) continues to deliver sustainable and increasingly visible results toward the innovative development of waste management technologies in Sofia. The joint work between science and practice proves that when expert potential and institutional commitment go hand in hand, the impact is significant for both the economy and the environment.
SMEWT is a long-term partner of the Environmental Biotechnology team at Sofia University, working within Clean&Circle. At the core of this collaboration is the active engagement of the Director of SMEWT, Eng. Nikolay Savov, who is among the contributors and creators of the new building of the Center of Competence and its technological research lines.
The New Building of the Center of Competence
The goal is clear: increasing the efficiency of waste treatment processes, optimizing resources, and creating sustainable solutions that generate economic value while reducing the city’s environmental footprint.
Focus on Biogas – More Energy from Waste
Clean&Circle will work on increasing the quantity of the biogas produced and improving its quality as an alternative energy source. Through scientifically grounded improvements and the implementation of innovative biotechnological solutions, more efficient utilization of organic waste and a greater contribution to the capital’s energy independence and sustainable development are expected.
The meeting was also an occasion for the partners to celebrate the recently received “Building of the Year” award – Green Building in the “Science” category. The award not only confirms the high quality of the developed infrastructure but also serves as additional motivation for the researchers and experts at Clean&Circle to continue
