On March 16, 2023 (Thursday), students from the University of Forestry – Sofia and Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” will visit the laboratories of the Centre of Competence Clean&Circle at the Faculty of Biology of Sofia University and at the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy (UACEG).

The event will start at 09:00 in the Aula of the Faculty of Biology and will be open to all students, regardless of whether they are enrolled in the faculty or not. Madlen Georgieva from OIC-Sofia will inform the students about various opportunities to benefit from European funding for their education, while Prof. DSc Yana Topalova will present the Centre. The laboratory visits will also involve Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jovana Todorova, Chief Assistant Prof. Dr. Ivaylo Yotinov, as well as Assist. Prof. Dr. Yordan Karapenchev from the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication.
The aim of the visit is to showcase good practices from projects implemented with the financial support of the European Structural and Investment Funds. The Centre of Competence is being developed under project BG05M2OP001-1.002-0019: “Clean Technologies for a Sustainable Environment – Water, Waste, Energy for a Circular Economy” Clean&Circle, financed by the Operational Programme “Science and Education for Smart Growth” 2014–2020, co-financed by the European Union through ESIF.
The event is being held just a week before World Water Day, celebrated annually on March 22. This is also the reason why the experts from Clean&Circle will place a particular focus on the technologies currently being developed in the field of water. The “Water” Module is one of the key components of the project. In her presentation, Prof. Yana Topalova, project coordinator, will share more about the upcoming celebration and how science contributes to protecting this precious resource.
The event is organized with the support of the Regional Information Centre – Sofia. OIC-Sofia (Contract № BG05SFOP001-4.007-0024-C01), implemented by Sofia Municipality, is part of a network of 27 information centres, functioning with the financial support of the Operational Programme “Good Governance,” co-financed by the European Union through the European Social Fund.
