Project

“Clean technologies for sustainable environment – waters, waste, energy for circular economy“ (Clean&Circle) for creation and development of a Centre of Competence

The first meeting between the Center of Competence “Clean&Circle” and the leading military plant “Arsenal” AD was held online via the Zoom platform on December 14. The discussion was initiated by the company’s intention to invest long-term in water treatment technologies generated in its production process. Representing Arsenal AD were Vladimir Chuchumishev, Head of Technical Development, and Petya Papazova, Head of the Ecology Department. Clean&Circle was represented by the Center’s management team.

During the discussion, Prof. Yana Topalova, DSc, presented the Center’s capacity to provide scientific and technical expertise and evaluation of environmental projects, with particular emphasis on modern water treatment systems for potentially hazardous pollutants.

It became clear that Arsenal AD already operates its own wastewater treatment plant, which processes used water, but is actively seeking ways to improve its performance. The company showed particular interest in the latest scientific developments in sludge and wastewater treatment.

This is an area in which the Center of Competence possesses significant expertise, and both parties agreed to continue their collaboration. As a first step in this process, Prof. Topalova emphasized the need for an on-site inspection of the existing installations, as well as the collection of wastewater and sludge samples generated during production.

The sampling will take place at the beginning of 2023, when a team of scientists from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” will arrive in Kazanlak. The results of the sample analysis will allow Clean&Circle to propose an optimal solution for the plant to improve the environmental footprint of its production process.
