On November 26, 2025, the Center of Competence “Clean&Circle” opened the doors of its equipped laboratories for the first time in its new building at the “Lozenets” academic campus. The event took place as an Open Day titled “Discover Clean&Circle”, attracting representatives of the academic community, institutions, partner organizations, and guests.
The program began with an official opening by Assoc. Prof. Ivaylo Yotinov, PhD, Coordinator of the Center. Greetings to the creators of Clean&Circle were delivered by Prof. Stoyan Shishkov, PhD, Vice-Rector of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, and the Mayor of the Lozenets District – Konstantin Pavlov.
Prof. Yana Topalova, DSc, Coordinator of the Center under the OP SRID, presented the newly built infrastructure of the Center – an ecological laboratory building featuring numerous innovative elements for circular water use and energy efficiency, high-tech equipment, specialized and aimed at developing clean technologies and circular solutions for the benefit of business and society. During the official part of the event, acknowledgements were presented to the people with the greatest contribution to the establishment of the new infrastructure, awarded by the Vice-Rector of Sofia University.
A key part of Prof. Topalova’s speech was the news about the nomination of the Clean&Circle building in the prestigious “Building of the Year” competition. What is special about this competition is that the public has direct influence on the final result. “Every vote in support of Clean&Circle contributes to the promotion of sustainable architectural solutions, scientific progress, and investments in modern educational infrastructure,” Prof. Topalova shared with the guests.

All attendees took part in a tour of the newly furnished laboratories, accompanied by technological guides. Guests had the opportunity to view the scientific equipment up close and explore the capabilities and developments of Clean&Circle in the field of clean technologies for a sustainable environment.
“Discover Clean&Circle” concluded with a cocktail reception in the large conference hall, offering an opportunity for informal conversations and partnership building.
The event was held within the framework of the project № BG16RFPR002-1.014-0015 “Center of Competence: Clean Technologies for Sustainable Environment – Water, Waste, Energy for Circular Economy”, funded by the “Research, Innovation and Digitalization for Smart Transformation” Program and co-funded by the European Union through the European Structural and Investment Funds.
