On October 15, 2019, at 5:00 p.m., in the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Biology at Sofia University, the official opening of the 2019–2020 academic year was held for the master’s degree programs of the Department of General and Applied Hydrobiology: “Environmental Biotechnology,” “Biobusiness and Bioentrepreneurship,” “Ecomanagement,” and “Applied Hydrobiology and Aquaculture.”
These master’s programs are part of the educational strategy of the Competence Center project “Clean Technologies for a Sustainable Environment – Water, Waste, Energy for a Circular Economy.” Through the newly created scientific infrastructure, the experimental training of future specialists will be enhanced in the field of innovative methods for wastewater and waste control, the creation of clean technologies, and their rapid transfer to practice and business.
At the opening, the Competence Center “Clean Technologies for a Sustainable Environment – Water, Waste, Energy for a Circular Economy,” Project BG05M2OP001-1.002-0019, was presented. The newly enrolled students were introduced to the progress made under the project, the upcoming activities and research areas being developed, as well as the potential for future work of young trained researchers in the center as master’s thesis students, doctoral candidates, and young scientists.
The project provides, along with the establishment of the Center and its accompanying basic and scientific infrastructure, for the development and training of a research team of leading national and international researchers, young scientists, and doctoral candidates. They will have the opportunity to develop and implement innovations and advanced technologies that connect science, business, and the wider public, delivering significant environmental and economic benefits.
