Project

“Clean technologies for sustainable environment – waters, waste, energy for circular economy“ (Clean&Circle) for creation and development of a Centre of Competence

On World Environment Day (June 5), the conference hall of the new building of the Center of Competence Clean&Circle gathered students from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and their innovative proposals for sustainable development. During the event, student projects were presented focusing on innovative biotechnological solutions and entrepreneurship, aimed at transforming waste into valuable resources and energy.

The projects were developed as part of the students’ training in disciplines related to the circular economy, sustainable technologies, and environmental risk management. A key emphasis in the presentations was placed on integrating technological solutions with elements of business planning, sustainable management, and strategic risk assessment.

Participants demonstrated skills in:

  • Developing business plans for biotech start-ups;

  • Applying international standards such as ISO 14001 (environmental management), ISO 31000 (risk management), ESG criteria (environmental, social, and governance factors), and Total Quality Management as a core sustainability framework;

  • Designing circular solutions that combine scientific approaches with real economic value.

The initiative is part of the Biotechnology Entrepreneurship Incubator established within the Center of Competence Clean&Circle. It not only fosters practical skills among students but also provides opportunities for further professional development within the center’s scientific ecosystem.
